December 2022 Obsidian Moon Crate

Obsidian Moon Crate is a quarterly book box based in the US that focuses on adults with interest in the darker elements of life and books. Each box comes with a new hardcover book either YA or Adult Fantasy or Science Fiction, one crystal, one candle, and four to five other items. December’s theme is Darker than the Deep.

The items included in this box are a Empire of Storms unisex t-shirt, a mixology drink, a candle inspired by Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse, a bath bomb with a crystal inside it, a Skin of the Sea inspired enamel pin and a set of foil bookmarks inspired by the Shades of Magic. All the items are high quality and the only one I won’t use is the mixology drink but I like the idea behind it.

The book included was The Syren’s Mutiny by Jessica S. Taylor which follows Brigid who stowaways on a ship to escape being married off, but when she is discovered she is thrown to the ocean. However, she is saved by becoming a Syren and Brigid now has the ability to seek revenge on those who wronged her. Based on the summary it sound to me like a dark fantasy horror with some possible romance. This edition also has an exclusive dust jacket, art on the hardback and end papers, and painted edges.

Overall, if you are interested in a darker aesthetic or darker book this could be the book box for you. I do plan to order other boxes from them in the future. The next quarterly boxes theme is Courting Death.

Obsidian Moon Crate December 2021 Box

Obsidian Moon Crate is a newer book box based in the US that focuses on adults with interest in the darker elements of life and books. Each box comes with a new hardcover book, one crystal, one candle, and four to six other items.

The items included in this box are a full size bath soak inspired by the Winternight Trilogy, a Snow Maiden wood wick candle, a wooden sign, a His Dark Materials enamel pin, peppermint hot cocoa mix, and an opalite crystal star.

The book included was a hardcover copy of The Midnight Girls by Alicia Jasinsk. This edition also came with an author letter, a signed book plate, and purple sprayed edges. The story features two rival women who each want to steal the pure heart of the prince. If one consumes a pure heart they will gain immense power. But as their attraction to each other grows their rivalry might cost both of their lives.

Overall, if you are interested in a darker aesthetic or darker book this could be the book box for you. I do plan to order other boxes from them in the future.

Obsidian Moon Crate’s Our Lord & Savior Jay Kristoff Box in Celebration of Empire of the Vampire

Obsidian Moon Crate is a US based book box company for 18 plus that focuses on the darker side of things. Their boxes always have a hardcover book, a crystal, and a candle and then they include about 4-6 other items. As several other book boxes they did a special edition of Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff and I just wanted to see what each company would do for this book.

The Hardback itself is just the signed first edition of the standard US edition but it came with an exclusive dust jacket with art on the reverse and beautifully painted edges. I was waiting to get all my copies to decide which editions I like the most and this one and the Illumicrate one are my favorites.

The items included were a set of enamel pins, a whiskey tumbler, a set of posters from Lifelike, The Illuminae Files, and The Aurora Cycle, two maps, a candle, an Aurora Cycle pin banner, a set of postcards from each of Jay Kristoff’s series, a crystal, and a Tarot Deck. The Tarot Deck was delayed in manufacturing and is shipping later. There was also a large tapestry blanket that could be order separate from the box.

Overall, I absolutely loved this box. Unlike other companies Obsidian Moon Crate not only gave us items inspired by Empire of the Vampire but other works by Jay Kristoff and the aesthetic of the box fits the vibe of the book.

Obsidian Moon Crate March 2021

Obsidian Moon Crate is a newer book box based in the US that focuses on adults with interest in the darker elements of life and books. Each box comes with a new hardcover book, one crystal, one candle, and four to six other items. I ordered the March box because it looked interesting and because I wanted to try out the box before I order the special edition box for Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff that they are doing. Based on this March box the items are high quality and I like most of them.

The items included in this box where a gothic enamel pin, a red jasper crystal for protection, a lotion inspired by Mexican Gothic, a Carmilla inspired candle, classical gothic character art, a tumbler with a quote from Frankenstein on it, a wooden bookmark inspired by Lenore from Edgar Allan Poe’s work, a sticker, and the spoiler card with art. The one thing that I was not expecting was a hand written letter from the owner thanking me for my order.

The book included was a hardcover copy of Down Comes the Night by Allison Saft which also included an author letter and a signed book plate. Down Comes the Night follows Wren who has been dismissed from the Queen’s Guard for reckless use of magic but she in called to Colwick Hall to cure a servant of an illness. While there she learns that her patient is none other than Hall Cavendish, Wren’s countries sworn enemy. They must join together to try out the secrets of the estate and save both of their kingdoms.

Overall, if you are interested in a darker aesthetic or darker book this could be the book box for you. I do plan to order other boxes from them in the future.
